3 Common Blogging Mistakes Wedding Professionals Make (And How To Fix Them)

Wedding supplier writing a blog post to attract more wedding clients

If you’re a wedding professional, get ready, as I’m about to address a very touchy topic: blogging to attract more clients. As a former wedding planner turned wedding SEO expert, I understand the struggle. You work tirelessly, trying to write articles every month, or even every week, hoping to boost your visibility and online reach. Yet, despite all the effort, you’re left with zero enquiries from Google, unsure about what went wrong. Or the idea of constant blogging is too overwhelming that you completely abandoned your website before giving it a fair shot.

Now, don’t get me wrong - blogging is an awesome way to boost your SEO, showcase your expertise and connect with your ideal couples. However, all too often, wedding professionals fall into the trap of prioritising quantity over quality; pumping out blog posts that lack depth and relevance, failing to attract the right audience.

I analyse hundreds of wedding supplier websites each month and consistently come across three common mistakes wedding professionals make when it comes to blogging. And I don’t want you to be one of those wedding pros. So let's get cosy with your favourite cuppa as we explore these three common blogging mistakes and, most importantly, learn how to fix them. Ready? Let’s dive in!

Blogging Mistake #1: Focusing on quantity over quality

Let’s start with the biggest mistake of all - prioritising quantity over quality. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that churning out blog posts constantly will boost your online presence and bring you more enquiries. However, this approach often sacrifices the quality and value of your content, ultimately diminishing its impact.

Sure, you may have come across advice from various ‘experts’ urging you to publish blog posts every week to drive more wedding enquiries. But here’s the thing they are missing: it’s not just about writing for the sake of it but creating posts that genuinely resonate with YOUR target audience.

Engaged couples are on the lookout for valuable, insightful content that can truly assist them in their wedding planning journey. Whether it's practical tips, expert knowledge, or inspiring ideas – your blog posts should offer real value. If your content lacks depth, originality, and practical advice, it won't rank well on Google's search results. Moreover, you miss a chance to showcase your expertise and build trust with your audience.

Rather than fixating on a high number of blog posts, shift your focus towards delivering high-quality content that speaks directly to your ideal couples’ needs. Take the time to understand their concerns, knowledge gaps, and desires. Craft each blog post with a purpose, aiming to provide actionable tips and genuine inspiration. By placing quality at the forefront of your blogging strategy, you not only attract the right couples but also establish yourself as a go-to resource in the wedding industry.

In the end, wouldn't you rather have three high-quality, super-targeted blog articles that consistently show up in Google search results and brings quality traffic to your website, rather than twenty low-quality posts that go unnoticed? I thought so!

Blogging Mistake #2: Not being strategic with your wedding blog ideas

This particular mistake really breaks my heart, as I’ve come across it far too often (believe me, A LOT!). Lacking real strategy when it comes to choosing wedding blog ideas.

Your blog topics should be laser-focused on your target audience and directly aligned with your services and offerings. Randomly writing about various aspects of wedding planning or the latest trends won’t cut it, it will only be a waste of your time and energy. Instead, you must be intentional about what you write and ensure that each blog post serves a purpose for your business.

Remember, blogging is just another tool to assist your SEO efforts. The ultimate goal is to reach couples who are seeking more information or inspiration to make their decision in investing in your service. So for example, if you’re a cake maker, you want to be in front of couples who are actively considering ordering a wedding cake but are still in the research phase. Writing a blog post on ‘Why should I have a wedding cake’ or ‘Different types of wedding cakes’ can provide valuable information to help them make a well-informed decision. By doing so, you establish yourself as the go-to cake expert, and when they're ready to invest in a wedding cake, they'll know you're the perfect choice.

Similarly, if you’re a wedding venue, you don’t want to write a blog post on ‘Traditional Wedding Vows’. While it may seem like a great topic with a lot of interest, those searching for wedding vow inspiration are likely only a week away from their wedding and have already booked their venue. We want more than just traffic to your website; we want quality traffic that’s going to turn into enquiries and, eventually, bookings.

So first, get crystal clear on your 6-12 months business goals, and then come up with wedding blog ideas that directly aligned with your goals. Perhaps there are specific services you want to highlight, like increasing bookings for full wedding planning over design-only services. Or maybe you want to get wedding photography clients for a particular venue that you know draws in the perfect couples.

By strategically selecting topics that align with your business objectives, you can utilise your blog as a powerful marketing tool to attract the right couples to your business.

Blogging Mistake #3: Failing to mention your own business and services

As per the above section, blogging serves as a powerful tool to guide the decision-making process of your ideal clients and showcase yourself as the perfect service provider for their needs. However, many wedding professionals make the mistake of not mentioning their own business within their blog content, missing out on a valuable opportunity to showcase their services.

Imagine this: Your well-crafted blog articles start appearing on Google Search, attracting a flood of new traffic to your website. Exciting, right? But here's the catch: Those couples visiting your blog have no prior knowledge of who you are or what you offer. It's their very first encounter with your business and website, so never assume they already know what you do.

Always make sure to introduce yourself and your business in the introductory paragraph of each blog post. This not only familiarizes them with your business but also helps to build trust right from the start. Additionally, always provide a clear call to action at the end of your blog posts, guiding your readers on what to do next. Whether it's encouraging them to explore your portfolio, check out your range of services, join your email list, or connect with you on Instagram, let them know what action to take after reading your blog.

Remember, if you don't prompt them to take the next step, they may finish reading your brilliant blog article, acquire valuable information, and then unintentionally forget about your business (or worse, not even know you exist!). We certainly don't want that, do we? By thoughtfully promoting your business within your blog posts and providing clear calls to action, you can ensure that each reader leaves with a memorable impression of your business and a desire to explore your services further.

Stay Above The Competition & Book More Weddings

So, to sum it up, in today’s competitive wedding industry, blogging can be a powerful tool to boost your visibility on Google Search, showcase your expertise, and connect with your ideal couples. However, creating successful and effective blog articles is not just about pumping out content one after another. The key to successful blogging is to prioritise quality over quantity offering valuable information, strategically pick blog topics that align with your business goals and promote your own business and services within your blog articles.

By avoiding the three blogging mistakes I shared above, you will not only attract the right couples but also convert your website visitors into bookings. Start implementing these tips on your blog articles today and watch your enquiries soar!
