Leveraging Google Business Profile Listing: A Comprehensive Guide for Wedding Professionals

Marketing for the wedding industry is now more digital than ever, making your online presence key to stand out. With couples turning to search engines to find and book wedding services, and more wedding suppliers appearing each day, your online presence matters more than ever. As a wedding SEO consultant helping wedding businesses rank on Google, one tool I particularly love is Google Business Profile. Often overlooked, it's a powerful tool that can quite literally put your wedding business on the map!

Google business listings for wedding planners

Google Business Profile isn’t just a directory listing; it's an opportunity. It’s a dynamic platform where potential couples find your services and browse your portfolio, and where existing clients review you to help your online reputation blossom. So, whether you're a wedding planner, photographer, venue owner, or any other wedding industry professional, mastering this platform could mean the difference between an empty calendar and a fully-booked season.

In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore why Google Business Profile listing is essential for wedding professionals, guiding you through the process of setting up your profile and sharing proven strategies to make the most of it. By the time you finish reading this article, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and tools to give your wedding business the competitive edge it needs to thrive in the digital world. It’s time to put your business on the map so that when your ideal couples search for their perfect wedding team, they find you.

Why Google Business Profile Matters For Wedding Professionals?

Think of Google Business Profile as your online storefront, enriched with photos, reviews, contact information, and even a direct appointment link to guide engaged couples right to your doorstep (or shall I say inbox?). And the best part? It's completely free! But don't let the price tag, or lack thereof, fool you. Google Business Profile, formerly known as Google My Business, is so much more than a mere directory listing, and it's far from being just another online platform. It's an opportunity to put yourself in front of your dream couples right when they search for your services. They can get a TON of information about your business and start a conversation with you, without even visiting your website.

Here are some benefits of Google Business Profile for wedding professionals:

Local Search Visibility

Want to be the go-to wedding planner in your city or the most sought-after floral designer in your region? Google Business Profile puts you on the local map, quite literally, allowing nearby couples, or couples looking for services in a specific area, to discover your business. You know those fantastic map results you constantly use to find the best nearby cafés or the most loved restaurants in your travel destination? Well, that’s all thanks to Google Business Profile.

Showcasing Services and Portfolio

You can let your work speak for itself on a platform couples trust and use daily. ‘Cause let’s accept it, everyone trusts Google. Upload images of your latest wedding cake masterpiece, or a video tour of your wedding venue, and list your services for couples to explore directly from Google Search Results.

Connecting with Couples

Google Business Profile isn't just about being found; it's about connecting, engaging, and building trust. With features like Q&A, posts, and direct messaging, you're not just reaching potential couples; you're starting a conversation with them.

An Opportunity to Thrive, Free of Charge

Did I mention it's free? In an industry where every penny counts, Google Business Profile is a cost-effective way to enhance your online presence, all without damaging your pocket.

As a wedding SEO expert, I check Google Search Results for hundreds (if not thousands) of keywords every month in the UK, US, Australia and more. And without exaggeration, at least 80% of wedding searches display Google Maps with business listings, making Google Business Profile a must-have tool for wedding businesses. Utilising it can make the difference between being one of many and being THE one.

Setting Up Your Google Business Profile: A Step-by-Step Guide

Now that we’ve established Google Business Profile is a must-have for your business, it's time to set it up. But hey, what if you've been around for a while and there's already a profile out there with your business name on it? It’s possible! Whether you're creating a fresh new profile or claiming an existing one, I've got your back.

Step 1: Check for an Existing Profile

Before you leap into creating a new profile, let's make sure you're not doubling up. Start by searching for your business name on Google and see if anything pops up on the right side. Is that you? If so, it's time to claim it!

Click on "Claim this business" or "Own this business?" and follow the prompts. Google will guide you through the process, but if you get stuck, just give me a shout, and I'll help you out!

Step 2: Creating a New Profile

No existing profile? No problem! Head over to Google Business Profile and click "Manage Now." Follow the step-by-step instructions, and don't be shy about adding your photos - not just those stunning wedding photos but also your own and team photos, as everyone loves to see the face behind the business!

An important side note here: you need to have a Google Account to create a Business Profile. You don’t need a Gmail address for this, as any email will work! Just make sure that you’re logged into the correct Google Account you’d like to use for your business profile.

Step 3: Fill in All the Details

Whether you're claiming or creating, make sure your profile is as captivating as your wedding services. Fill in all the details, from your contact information to your service details. Tell your story via the business description, and make sure to sprinkle in some of that wedding magic, aka inspirational wedding imagery. Engaged couples are often visually driven, and compelling images can make a lasting impression. Include stunning pictures of your previous weddings, highlighting different aspects.

Step 4: Verify Your Profile

Google likes to know you're the real deal, so you'll need to verify your profile. Depending on your location, this might be done via a postcard, phone call, or email. It's Google's way of saying, "Are you really the best wedding photographer in town?" This also prevents anyone else from making unauthorized edits to your profile. Once your profile is verified, you can optimise your listing with all the features.

Step 5: Make It Shine

Once you're all set up, don't just let your profile sit there. Regularly add more photos, respond to reviews, and post updates about your latest weddings and offerings. I always recommend my clients add a monthly reminder to their calendars to spend 30 minutes each month to check and update their Google Business Profile.

Optimising Your Google Business Profile For Maximum Impact & Visibility

By optimising your Google Business Profile, you will significantly enhance your online visibility and book more weddings. It’s about transforming your profile from simply being present to actively performing. When potential clients search for wedding businesses, a well-optimised profile will make your business stand out among the competition.

Prioritise Google Reviews

One of the most powerful features of Google Business Profile is the ability to collect and showcase reviews. Reviews play a significant role not just in influencing potential couples who are considering your services but also in boosting your online visibility. The more reviews you have, the more chances you have to show up in the business listings as one of the top results.

Let me be clear: this is THE place to collect testimonials. No more email testimonials. In fact, you should start emailing your past couples and ask for their Google reviews as soon as your profile is up and running.

Simply generate a unique review link through your Google Business Profile and send it to your clients via email. By using this unique link, you'll make the process super straightforward for couples, encouraging more of them to leave a review. You can send a personalised email or even include a gentle reminder in your post-wedding communication. Be sure to highlight the value of their feedback and how it can help other engaged couples make informed decisions.

You can then repurpose these golden nuggets as testimonials on your website, social media and other marketing materials.

Important tip: Don’t just let those beautiful reviews sit there. Engage with them, thank your clients, and show your appreciation. This not only builds a relationship but shows potential clients and Google that you're active and attentive.

Use Your Keywords in Business Description and Services

You know how much I love keywords, right? Well, your Google Business Profile is another playground for keywords. Your business description isn’t just a story; it's an opportunity to get found. Add in those valuable keywords that describe your services, location, and what sets you apart.

You can also add custom services and include specific keywords there. Think 'black and white wedding photography' or 'wild floral design'. That way, whenever a couple makes a search for a specific keyword, the chances of your business profile showing up increase.

Regularly Update Your Profile

Google loves fresh content and wants to know that you’re still active and operating. One way to show this is to regularly update your profile with fresh images, monthly posts and announcements. Upload fresh content once a month, whether it’s a new photo from last month’s wedding, announcements of your latest wedding gallery, or an update on a special offer.

Tip: Make sure to check your services once every two months, as Google has a tendency to add new service recommendations that may not be right for your business. In that case, all you need to do is remove that service.
